Is your library beginning to feel a little cramped? Do you already know your building isn’t adequate for your community’s needs, but need help articulating why? How do you translate changing demands for library services and resources into a plan for your library building’s future? Public Library Space Needs: A Planning Outline is designed to help library planners translate a library’s service goals into the amount of space needed to achieve them. Using the Outline can help you assess the adequacy of your existing library and evaluate whether to embark on a building project.

This webinar will offer an introduction to the recently-released 4th edition of Public Library Space Needs: A Planning Outline. You’ll learn more about the relevance and limitations of the Outline as a planning tool for Wisconsin public libraries, and experienced library planners will walk you through examples of how to use the Outline to evaluate your library space needs. There will be ample time for Q&A.

Presenters: Deb Haeffner, Building and Design Consultant, South Central Library System; Teresa Schmidt, Public Library Administration Consultant, Wisconsin DPI Bureau of Libraries; John Thompson, System Director and Building Consultant, IFLS Library System
